Focus On Nutrition - A Peachy Time Of Year

In one of his quotes noted cartoonist and author George du Maurier tells us, "An apple is an excellent thing - - until you have tried a peach."

Peaches are available almost year around with the best time for enjoying these delights being late spring through late summer.  Generally, early in the spring most of the peaches we receive come from Georgia and then the California crop comes on strong in June and lasts through late summer.  Of course Oklahoma has some bragging rights as far as some pretty good tasting peaches from the towns of Porter and Stratford.

Perhaps the best way to enjoy a peach is to eat it fresh.  But, at the same time home made peach ice cream is hard to beat too.  And, then there is peach pies, peach cobblers, peaches and cream and we could go on and on.
Peaches are low in calories, contain zero saturated fats, and zero sodium.  They carry Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and B-carotene.  Peaches are also rich in many necessary minerals such as iron, fluoride, calcium, and potassium.
In this weeks ad that begins June 8th, southern peaches are featured.  So grab some while they are on sale!
