Focus On Nutrition - The Sweet And Sour Of It

There are sweet cherries and then there are not so sweet (tart) cherries and both can be delightful and good for you.

There very well may not be a better way to enjoy cherries than straight out of the bag or container, but we also love them in limeades, on top of ice cream, and in our pies and cobblers.

From a nutritional  standpoint, cherries are low in calories and contain zero cholesterol or fat. They are a good source of Vitamin C and contain other vitamins and minerals.  Tart cherries are a good source of melatonin - a hormone that lowers our body temperature and makes us sleepy.  Cherries are known to help relieve the discomfort of gout, arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Cherries are in their peak season from mid-spring to early summer so enjoy during this peak time.  Sweet cherries will be featured in our ad this coming week and the ad begins July 6th.
